'Meander' Armchair by Rudolf Wolf

€0.00
Sold

Rudolf Wolf (1919-1989)
Gaasbeek & Van Tiel
period: 1960s
origin: The Netherlands
dimensions: h63 x w84 x d65 cm
material: faux leather, metal, original upholstery

Rudolf Wolf’s ‘Meander’ armchair is a true classic. In 1964, it was the first Dutch design ever to be awarded the annual International Design Award by the American Institute of International Designers. Thanks to its prominent role in the immensely popular Dutch t.v. series Mies en scène it received national acclaim as well. The program, named after its host Mies ‘queen of the screen’ Bouwman, was a mix of news and entertainment, interluded with a famous interview section staged in a tête-à-tête set-up of Wolf’s Meander chairs. Bouwman’s promising announcement “And now for… the chair!” still rings dear.
